A Lost Sense

Film, Marketing

A Lost Sense is a short film that tells the story of Gavin, a young boy who, after being disregarded by his two older siblings at the family beach house, embarks on a secret walk and has an encounter with the unbelievable.

I made this film after a period of reflection on my childhood marked by New England land(and sea)scapes, chaotic relationships with siblings, and a long time fascination with aliens.

The film was tons of fun to make, we put together a dream cast and crew and created something really special. After the film was completed it was accepted into 13+ festivals based all around the world, and garnered over 7 different awards.

Highlights included winning best of festival at the Arlington International Film Festival where the jury wrote “Spectacular cinematography presented, the control of light, especially in the scene where the boy comes out and finds the UFO, atmospheric, communicational, emotional, and a contrast between the ordinary and the extraordinary. Great job!

A Lost Sense was also a People’s Choice Finalist in the Kino Short Film festival, which was held at the Director’s Guild of America, which made a perfect excuse for me to spend some time in LA and attend a great festival at a dream venue.

One thing I learned while making this film is that the work doesn’t end once it’s finished. From submitting to festivals to promoting them to boost attendance, there was a lot of marketing for me to handle—from hanging up posters at festival theaters where A Lost Sense would be playing to creating short-form content for promotion.
